30 ml butter
30 ml olive oil
1 green pepper, chopped
2 onions, chopped
3 sticks celery, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
4 x 170 g cans tuna in vegetable oil, drained & flaked
1 x 400 g can chopped peeled tomatoes
1 x 115 g tub tomato paste
Salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste
15 ml sugar
30 ml parsley, chopped
30 ml oregano, chopped
6 – 9 lasagne sheets
2 x 250 ml LANCEWOOD Sauce Delight™ White Sauce mixed with 400 g grated LANCEWOOD® Cheddar or White Cheddar and 180 ml milk
80 g extra LANCEWOOD® Cheddar or White Cheddar for sprinkling on top
Heat the butter and olive oil and fry the green pepper, onions, celery and garlic until golden and soft. Add the tuna, tomatoes, tomato paste, seasoning, sugar and herbs and warm for 5 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Use a ± 25 cm x 20 cm x 6 – 7 cm deep ovenproof dish. Start with a thin layer of cheese sauce, follow with lasagne sheets. Add half of the tuna and cheese sauce. Repeat another layer ending with the cheese sauce. Sprinkle the extra Cheddar over and bake for 40 – 45 minutes or until golden and bubbling. Serve with salad.
