Christmas Tree Brownies

A festive, fudgy treat perfect for South African summer celebrations

If you're searching for easy Christmas dessert ideas that look magical but don’t require hours in the kitchen, these Christmas Tree Brownies will be your new holiday favourite. Rich, chocolatey and cut into adorable tree shapes, they’re a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, especially with a creamy glaze made from LANCEWOOD® Vanilla Double Cream Yoghurt.

The yoghurt’s thick, velvety texture adds a luxurious festive touch, making it a go-to ingredient for Christmas desserts South Africa families love. It brings the same indulgent richness you’d expect from traditional double thick cream yoghurt or classic double cream South Africa holiday bakes, but with a lighter, fresher finish that suits warm-weather celebrations perfectly.

12 Serves/Makes
 Cooking Time:  < 60 min

Ingredients

For the brownies:

180 g butter
300 g brown sugar
10 ml vanilla essence
3 large eggs
140 g Flour
55 g cocoa
A pinch of salt

For the glaze:

1 cup(s) icing sugar
2 tbsp LANCEWOOD® Double Cream Vanilla Yoghurt
white & silver sprinkles , festive

Paper straws

Method

1. Preheat your oven to 170°C. Line a 22 × 22 cm square baking tin with baking paper, leaving extra over the edges for easy removal.

2. Melt the butter and let cool slightly. Whisk in the brown sugar and vanilla essence. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

3. Combine the flour, cocoa and salt. Fold into the wet mixture until just combined.

4. Pour the batter into the tin, smooth the top and bake for 30–35 minutes until the centre is cooked but still fudgy.

5. Cool and shape: Cool in the tin for 15 minutes, then lift out onto a rack. Once fully cooled, use a Christmas tree cookie cutter to punch out tree shapes. Attach a small piece of paper straw to the base of each tree.

6. Make the glaze: Sift the icing sugar into a bowl. Gradually add yoghurt until a smooth, spreadable glaze forms. Decorate each brownie tree and finish with festive sprinkles.
Let the glaze set for 30 minutes.

7. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
